Troy Elementary Celebrates Read Across America Day with Fun Activities & Special Guests

Troy Elementary School recently joined the nationwide celebration of Read Across America Day, encouraging students to discover the joy of reading.

This nationwide initiative encourages students to dive into books. The school hosted a variety of exciting activities throughout the day to foster a joy for reading. The day featured fun activities, including a special visit from the Cat in the Hat, whose playful charm delighted students of all ages.

Guest readers from the University of Idaho and Latah County Sheriff's Department shared stories with students, adding a personal  touch to the celebration. A unique twist on the traditional reading experience came in the form of buddy reading, where 5th and 6th grade students teamed up with younger classmates to read together. This mentorship-style activity not only encouraged the older students to practice their reading skills but also allowed the younger students to benefit from the guidance and encouragement of their older peers.

To cap off the exciting day, Troy Elementary held a read-in during the afternoon. The entire school gathered in classrooms, library spaces, and even hallways to immerse themselves in books. The read-in gave students the chance to get comfortable, relax, and enjoy some quiet time with their favorite stories. Parents and staff members shared their appreciation for the event, noting that it helps to reinforce the value of reading, not just in the classroom, but in everyday life.

Troy Elementary ended  the day with a reminder that reading is a lifelong adventure—opening doors to imagination, knowledge, and endless possibilities.
