TES would like to thank all the families for donating to our annual Souper Bowl food drive. All of the proceeds were delivered to our local Troy Food Bank.

 

Clayton Henry Orson Zolber

05/23/25 - 02/13/21

Clayton Henry Orson Zolber, 95, of Troy, Idaho died peacefully of old age on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Good Samaritan Society in Moscow, Idaho.


Clayton was a WWII veteran who served in Japan, Guam and Okinawa . He was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater and World War II Victory medals. He also earned his private pilot license.


He was very honored to be the Grand Marshall in the November 2020 Troy Veteran’s Day parade. Memorial donations may be made to the Troy ACS Foodbank and/or Troy Historical Society. A memorial service is planned for the Spring.


 

LIBRARY NEWS


Latah County libraries, including the Troy Community Library, are now offering the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This is an early literacy program designed to encourage reading readiness by celebrating reading with incentivized reading logs. Please visit the library or latahlibrary.org for more information.


The March STEAM Take-away Activity is Binary Code Initial Bracelets made with UV light sensitive beads. This coding exercise will be a color-changing experience.


The March STEAM Activity will be available starting March 17th , 2021. Supplies are limited for all take-home crafts/activities; they are given out on a first-come, first-served basis.

City of Troy Code Enforcer: Meet Jerry Mack


Gerald Mack (Jerry) Has lived in Latah county since 2008, presently living on Moscow Mt north of Moscow. Jerry served in the US Army

from 1969 to 1971, he is a Vietnam veteran. He worked as an equipment mechanic for the US Postal Service for 28 years and transferred to the Department of Defense as a full time Blackhawk crew chief and instructor retiring in 2006. Jerry also served 25 years in the National Guard as a helicopter crew chief for a Medevac company. He was deployed to Iraq in 2004-2005 as a crew chief and gunner. He worked for the University of Idaho from 2011 to 2019 for Parking and Transportation as a Parking Enforcement Officer. Jerry is married and his stepdaughter and her family also live in Latah county.

MARCH RECIPE

Cowboy Caviar

1 (15.5 ounce) can black beans, drained

1 (15.5 ounce) can black-eyed peas, drained

1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained

2 cups frozen corn kernels, thawed

½ medium onion, chopped

¼ green bell pepper, finely chopped

½ cup chopped pickled jalapeno peppers

½ teaspoon garlic salt

1 cup Italian salad dressing

¾ cup chopped cilantro


Mix beans, peas, tomatoes, corn, onion, bell pepper, and jalapeno peppers in a large bowl. Season with garlic salt. Add dressing and cilantro; toss to coat. Serve with tortilla chips.
